Stumbo will challenge Richards

State Rep. Greg Stumbo will send letters to his Democratic House colleagues Thursday afternoon notifying them of his intention to seek the speaker’s post in the January leadership elections. In doing so, the former House majority floor leader and state attorney general will take on incumbent Speaker Jody Richards.

Stumbo said he had achieved his goal of finding 40 members of the Democratic caucus who thought a change in direction was needed. He said he did not have that many commitments for votes, but he expressed confidence that he would win the election if it were held today.
