Whistling past the graveyard

Speaking to about 1,600 people who attended the Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast at the State Fair Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell described his job as being similar to a grounds keeper at a cemetery. "Everybody's under you, but nobody's listening."

Later, businessman Bruce Lunsford, the Democratic candidate for U.S. senator, said of the man he is challenging, "With his leadership, they (Senate Republicans) might as well be in a cemetery."

Come November, we'll know which one of these guys was whistling past the graveyard.

BTW, Republic Bank bought the prize-winning ham for $200,000, which will be donated to charity. And I'll step all over the punsters out there by saying the prize-winning ham was a real ham, not one of the dozens of politicians in attendance.
